Best of the Web for Teachers....

Hi Everyone,
I thought I would pass on some more great web sites for teachers. The first one is The Family Education Network - http://www.familyeducation.com  This is a great site that has thousands of printable activities and games for kids. They offer everything from reading and math to social studies and science printables. I love the reading comprehension printables. The have a math help link for K-12 as well as science fair projects and a message center. Another great site is http://www.bookadventure.com/ This site offers some great stuff for teachers, parents and students. You can register your whole class and they can read from home or at school and record their readings to earn points or a parent can register their child for great learning and games. They have a teacher's lounge as well as many other features...Check it Out!!!  The last web site for this week is http://www.carolhurst.com/ This site is a collection of reviews of great books for kids, ideas of ways to use them in the classroom and collections of books and activities about particular subjects, curriculum areas, themes and professional topics. O.K. my friends, can you tell I love reading children's books???  Everyone have a great week!

My Favorite Books.....

Hi Everyone,
I thought I would pass along some great reading websites as well as some information on my favorite books. One of my student's favorite reading sites is http://www.starfall.com/. There are many things to do on this site and the students always seem to find their favorites. If you are looking for any site that has to do with reading, check out http://www.toread.com/. It lists just about anything when it comes to reading. I also have the websites to over 200 authors. Some of my favorites are: Jan Brett- http://www.janbrett.com/ She offers over 4,800 coloring pages, activities and projects. Eric Carle- http://www.eric-carle.com/ He has a resource page listed on his site. I purchased several Eric Carle books through Kohls. They offered the book and the matching stuffed animal to go with the book for $5.00 each. Check it out, they may still offer his books if they are in stock. NOW...to my favorite books. I have two that I love reading at the beginning of the year to my second graders. At the beginning of the year, they are still like first graders to me. I love Robert Munsch's I Have to Go and  Love You Forever. I Have to Go is about a little boy who has to go "pee" all the time and finally wets himself. Love You Forever is about a little boy who drives his mother crazy, but she loves him forever and always. After a few minutes, my students join in with the repetition. They ask me to reread these books all year. Every time we get a new student, I have to reread them. Check out his website - http://www.robertmunsch.com/  He has his books listed where you can either listen to the book or look at the book information. It's great! I love reading children's books....makes me feel like a kid again! Everyone have a great week!

Great Web Site!

Hi to all my friends (who just happen to be teachers),
I have a great resource website for you...... http://www.readwritethink.org
If you have not heard of it, check it out. There are so many lesson plans, strategies, printouts and resource information that will surprise you. Check out the strategies section under professional development. There are several strategies on writing including persuasive writing. Looking for a great workshop, convention or summer institute?  Check out the meetings and events also under professional development. I found an exciting activity for K-2 listed under parent and afterschool resources entitled: We're going on a Shape Hunt. It includes the information and materials needed for the activity which can be send home with them. There is also a cute shape hunt chant which I sang to my five year old granddaughter. Another GREAT contribution from this site is that both the national and state standards can be looked up for each lesson plan. Check it out, I think you will be as thankful as I am for all the information available. Everyone have a great week!
